Getting Started
8 questions
RentFYN is a peer-to-peer rental marketplace where you can rent everyday and specialist items from people near you — or earn money by lending out things you already own. Think cameras, tools, sports gear, party supplies, and more.
Open the app and tap Sign Up on the Welcome Screen. You can register with:
  • Your email address and a password
  • Your Google account (one tap)
  • Your Apple ID
Once signed up, complete your profile to start renting or listing.
Yes. On the sign-up or login screen, tap Continue with Google or Continue with Apple. Your account is created automatically — no extra form to fill in. You can use either provider to sign in on any future visit.
You must be at least 18 years old to use RentFYN — both as a Renter and as an Owner. This is required because the platform involves financial transactions and binding rental agreements.
On the login screen tap Forgot Password. Enter your registered email address and we'll send you a reset link. Follow the link to set a new password. If you signed up via Google or Apple, your password is managed through that provider — use their account recovery process instead.
Yes. After logging in once with your credentials, you can enable Fingerprint or Face Unlock from your profile settings. Biometric data is processed entirely by your device's secure hardware — RentFYN never receives or stores your biometric information.
RentFYN uses Google reCAPTCHA during sign-up and certain sensitive actions to prevent automated bots from creating fake accounts. The check is usually invisible. You'll only see a challenge if your activity looks unusual — it only takes a second to complete.
Absolutely. A single account lets you list your own items for rent and rent items from others. Switch between your owner and renter activity from the Rentals Tab in the bottom navigation.

Browsing & Search
5 questions
The home feed shows items available near your current location. You can also use the Search bar to look for specific items, or browse by category. Allow location access when prompted to get the most relevant results.
The Product Detail Page shows everything you need to decide on a rental:
  • Photos of the item
  • Full description and condition notes
  • Daily / weekly pricing and security deposit (if any)
  • Availability calendar
  • Owner's profile, rating, and reviews
  • Pickup or delivery location on the map
Tap Rent Now to start your booking.
After searching, tap the Filter icon to narrow results by category, price range, availability dates, and distance. Apply filters to see only the listings that match your needs. Tap Clear Filters to reset.
The No Listings screen appears when no items match your current search or location. Try:
  • Broadening your search radius
  • Clearing active filters
  • Using different keywords
  • Checking back later — new items are added daily
Search results are ranked based on a combination of proximity to your location, listing quality (photos, description completeness), owner response rate, and overall review score. Keeping your listing up to date and responding quickly to requests improves your ranking.

Listing Items as an Owner
8 questions
Tap the + button from the home screen. You'll be guided through:
  1. Adding photos (camera or gallery)
  2. Writing a title and description
  3. Selecting a category
  4. Setting a price and optional security deposit
  5. Marking availability on the calendar
  6. Setting a pickup or delivery location
Once submitted, your listing goes live immediately.
The Calendar screen lets you mark which dates your item is available. Block out dates when you need the item yourself — renters will only see and book open slots. You can update availability at any time from your listing management screen.
Listings with these qualities get significantly more bookings:
  • 5+ clear photos — multiple angles in good lighting
  • Honest condition description — mention any wear or quirks
  • Competitive pricing — check similar items on the platform
  • Fast response time — aim to respond within a few hours
  • Accurate availability — keep your calendar up to date
Tip: Renters trust listings with detailed descriptions and real photos more than stock images.
You can list a wide range of items including cameras and photography equipment, tools and DIY equipment, sports and outdoor gear, electronics, musical instruments, party and event supplies, furniture, and more. The following are not permitted: weapons, illegal substances, adult content items, and live animals.
We recommend setting a security deposit for valuable or fragile items. The deposit is held by Stripe and released to the Renter once the item is returned in good condition. It gives you financial protection without deterring responsible renters.
Tip: Set the deposit at around 20–30% of the item's replacement value as a starting point.
Go to your profile and tap My Listings. Select the listing you want to update and tap Edit. You can change photos, description, price, and availability at any time. Changes take effect immediately.
Open the listing from your profile, tap the options menu (⋯) and choose Delete. A confirmation prompt will appear. Note: you cannot delete a listing that has an active or pending booking — resolve those first.
You must respond to booking requests within 48 hours. Requests that go unanswered expire automatically and no charge is made to the Renter. A consistently low response rate may affect your listing's visibility in search results.

Renting Items
7 questions
Open a listing, select your rental dates on the availability calendar, then tap Rent Now. Complete the payment step and your request is sent to the Owner. The booking is only confirmed once the Owner accepts and payment is processed successfully.
The Rentals Tab (bottom navigation) shows all your activity. The Status Tab tracks the live state of each rental:
  • Pending — awaiting owner approval
  • Confirmed — approved and payment collected
  • Active — rental period is underway
  • Completed — item returned and rental closed
  • Cancelled — booking did not proceed
The Approval Detail Page shows the full summary of a booking request — item, rental dates, pricing, and current status. Owners use this page to Accept or Decline incoming requests. Renters can view the same page to track the outcome.
You'll see the Rental Rejection Detail Screen explaining the reason (e.g. item unavailable, dates already blocked). Any payment held will be refunded in full within 5–10 business days. You're free to search for and book an alternative item immediately.
If the item is significantly different from its listing (wrong model, major undisclosed damage, not functional), do not accept it. Use the in-app camera to document the discrepancy and contact support at support@rentfyn.com immediately. Do not use the item. We will review the evidence and issue a full refund if the claim is valid.
Tip: Always inspect an item before accepting it and photograph its condition at pickup — this protects both parties.
Yes. Cancellations are subject to the following policy:
  • More than 48 hours before the rental starts — full rental fee refunded
  • Less than 48 hours before the rental starts — partial refund (see Terms & Conditions for exact amount)
  • After the rental has started — no refund for remaining days unless the Owner agrees
To cancel, go to the booking in your Rentals Tab and tap Cancel Booking.
Yes. Once a rental is marked as completed, you'll be prompted to rate and review the Owner and the item. Owners can also review Renters. Reviews must be honest and based on your genuine experience — incentivised or fake reviews violate our community guidelines and will be removed.

Payments & Fees
7 questions
RentFYN accepts the following payment methods (processed securely by Stripe):
  • Credit and debit cards — Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover
  • Google Pay
  • Bank account (via Stripe Financial Connections)
  • BECS direct debit (Australia)
All amounts are in US Dollars (USD).
Yes. RentFYN charges a small service fee to cover platform costs and payment processing. The exact fee is displayed clearly on the booking confirmation screen before you pay — you'll never be surprised by hidden charges.
Yes. All payments are handled by Stripe — a PCI-DSS Level 1 certified payment processor. RentFYN never sees or stores your raw card number or bank account details. Stripe tokenises your payment method so it is never transmitted in plain text.
Earnings are paid out via Stripe Connect. Once a rental is marked as completed, your payout (rental fee minus the platform service fee) is typically processed within 2–5 business days. You'll need to connect a bank account through the payout setup in your profile before you can receive funds.
Go to Profile → Transactions. The Transactions Screen lists all payments made and received, with dates, amounts, and booking references. Tap any entry for a detailed breakdown including fees and deposit status.
Common reasons include:
  • Insufficient funds or credit limit reached
  • Card details entered incorrectly
  • Your bank blocking the transaction — contact your bank to authorise
  • An expired card — update your payment method and retry
If the problem persists after trying a different card, contact support@rentfyn.com.
Tax obligations depend on your location and total rental income. As an Owner, you are solely responsible for determining and paying any applicable federal, state, or local taxes on income earned through the platform. RentFYN does not provide tax advice — consult a tax professional if you are unsure.

Safety & Trust
7 questions
Trust on RentFYN is built through several layers:
  • Account verification — email and payment method confirmation before transacting
  • Two-way reviews — both Owners and Renters rate each other after every rental
  • Secure payments — all funds flow through Stripe, not between strangers
  • Condition photography — both parties document item condition at pickup and return
  • Security deposits — optional financial protection held in escrow
  • Meet in a public place during daylight hours when possible
  • Let someone you trust know where you're going
  • Use the in-app messages rather than sharing personal contact details early
  • Inspect the item thoroughly before signing off on collection
  • Use the in-app camera to photograph the item's condition at both pickup and return
  • Never transfer money outside the RentFYN platform
Tip: All legitimate payments on RentFYN go through the app. Anyone asking you to pay via bank transfer or cash is acting against our policies — report them immediately.
Tap the menu on any listing or user profile and select Report. Choose the reason (fraud, prohibited item, harassment, etc.) and add any details. Our trust and safety team reviews all reports — serious cases are actioned within 24 hours.
The following are strictly prohibited and will be removed immediately:
  • Weapons and firearms (including ammunition and tasers)
  • Illegal or controlled substances and drug paraphernalia
  • Adult or sexually explicit items
  • Live animals
  • Counterfeit or stolen property
  • Items subject to a safety recall
If you see a prohibited listing, report it immediately using the ⋯ menu.
Your safety comes first. If you ever feel unsafe:
  • Leave immediately — the item or money is never worth your safety
  • Call emergency services if necessary
  • Report the incident to RentFYN at support@rentfyn.com as soon as you're safe
We take all safety reports extremely seriously and will take appropriate action against any user who makes another feel unsafe.
New users all start without reviews — this is normal. You can build confidence by:
  • Checking whether their profile is fully completed (photo, bio)
  • Messaging them through the app to ask any questions before committing
  • Ensuring payment is processed through the RentFYN platform (never offline)
  • Setting a security deposit for valuable items when renting to new accounts
RentFYN verifies accounts through email confirmation and payment method verification via Stripe before a user can transact. Additional verification steps may be required for Owners before they can receive payouts, as part of Stripe's standard onboarding requirements.

Returns & Disputes
7 questions
Open the active rental in your Rentals Tab and tap Initiate Return. The Return Request Screen guides you through:
  1. Confirming return date and time
  2. Photographing the item's current condition
  3. Selecting your return method (in-person or drop-off)
The rental closes once the Owner confirms receipt within 24 hours. If they don't confirm, the rental is automatically completed and your deposit is released.
Returning late without the Owner's agreement is a breach of the rental terms and may result in additional daily charges and a negative review. If you need extra time, message the Owner through the app as early as possible to request an extension — many Owners are happy to accommodate if given notice.
Notify the Owner immediately and document the damage with photos through the app. The Owner has 48 hours after the item is returned to submit a damage claim. RentFYN will review the evidence (including pickup and return photos) and make a decision. If a deposit was collected, it may be partially or fully applied to the damage cost.
Report it to the Owner and to RentFYN at support@rentfyn.com as soon as possible. As a Renter, you are liable for the full replacement cost of a lost or stolen item. If theft is involved, file a police report and provide the report number to RentFYN — this may assist in the resolution process.
Tip: Owners — check your home contents or specialist insurance, as some policies cover peer-to-peer rental scenarios.
Submit a dispute within 7 days of the rental completion date by emailing support@rentfyn.com with the subject "Rental Dispute – [Booking ID]". RentFYN's team will review:
  • Condition photos from pickup and return
  • In-app messages between the parties
  • The agreed listing terms and booking details
RentFYN's decision on platform disputes is final with respect to any funds held. We aim to resolve disputes within 5 business days of receiving all evidence.
Yes. Use the Return Request Screen before the scheduled end date. The Owner will be notified. Refunds for unused days depend on the Owner's cancellation policy stated in the listing. Returning early does not automatically trigger a refund unless the Owner agrees to one.
If no damage claim is raised within 48 hours of return, your security deposit is automatically released back to your original payment method within 5 business days. If a claim is raised, the deposit is held while the dispute is reviewed. Any portion not applied to the claim is refunded to you.
🔒
Insurance & Liability
5 questions
No. RentFYN does not provide insurance for any item listed or rented on the platform. Owners are solely responsible for ensuring their items are appropriately covered. Security deposits provide a degree of financial protection but are not a substitute for insurance.
We recommend Owners check the following before listing:
  • Home contents insurance — confirm whether peer-to-peer rental is covered (many policies exclude it)
  • Specialist peer-to-peer rental insurance — several providers offer short-term coverage for items being rented out
  • Item-specific policies — cameras, drones, and musical instruments often have dedicated rental insurance products
Consult your insurer before listing valuable items.
Tip: Being uninsured doesn't prevent you from listing, but it does mean you bear the full financial risk if something goes wrong beyond the deposit amount.
RentFYN's Terms & Conditions require that items are safe and fit for purpose. If you list an item with a known defect or safety hazard without disclosing it, you may face personal liability. Always disclose any faults in the listing description and do not rent out items you know to be unsafe. RentFYN is not liable for personal injury arising from rental transactions — this is a matter between the Owner, the Renter, and their respective insurers.
RentFYN is a marketplace — we connect Owners and Renters but are not a party to the rental agreement itself. Our liability to you is limited to the service fees you have paid to RentFYN. We are not responsible for the quality, safety, or condition of items, or for the conduct of other users. See our full Terms & Conditions for the complete limitation of liability clause.
Only if you have explicit authorisation from the actual owner. Listing items you do not own and are not authorised to rent is a violation of RentFYN's Terms and potentially a legal offence. If you are unsure, check your lease, loan agreement, or ownership documents before listing.

Notifications
4 questions
You'll receive notifications for important events including:
  • New rental request received (Owners)
  • Booking approved or rejected
  • Rental start and end reminders
  • Return request submitted or confirmed
  • Payment received or processed
  • New review posted on your listing or profile

Go to the Notifications Screen (bell icon) and tap Settings to toggle individual notification categories on or off. You can also manage notification permissions at the system level via Android Settings → Apps → RentFYN → Notifications.
Tip: We recommend keeping booking-related notifications on — missing an approval request within 48 hours means it expires automatically.
Check the following in order:
  • Notification permission is granted — Android Settings → Apps → RentFYN → Notifications
  • Battery optimisation is not restricting the app in the background
  • Do Not Disturb mode is turned off
  • You have an active internet connection
If the issue persists, log out of the app and log back in — this refreshes your device's notification token.
Yes. Go to Android Settings → Apps → RentFYN → Notifications and turn off all notifications. Note that disabling notifications means you will not be alerted to booking requests, payment updates, or return confirmations — you will need to check the app manually to stay on top of your rentals.

  • Payments are handled by Stripe (PCI-DSS compliant — we never store card data)
  • Biometrics are processed only by your device's secure hardware

Privacy Settings
8 questions
Go to Profile → Settings → Privacy Settings. From there you can manage all app permissions, control how your data is used, exercise your California privacy rights, and access legal documents — all in one place.
In Privacy Settings, under App Permissions, toggle any permission on or off. Tapping a toggle takes you directly to the relevant Android system settings page for that permission. Changes take effect immediately without needing to restart the app.
  • Location — needed to show nearby listings and set pickup spots on the map
  • Camera — needed to photograph items for listings and condition reports
  • Microphone — needed for in-app audio and video recording
  • Photo Library — needed to upload existing photos to listings
Under App Permissions → Biometric Login, toggle the switch on or off. When enabled, you can sign in with your fingerprint or face instead of your password. Biometric data is processed entirely by your device's secure hardware — RentFYN never receives or stores it. Disabling this setting means you'll use your password to log in.
In Privacy Settings, under Your Data, tap Download My Data. You can request a copy of all personal data RentFYN holds about you — including your profile, rental history, reviews, and transaction records. Your data package will be prepared and sent to your registered email address. This is your right under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).
Go to Privacy Settings → Your Data and toggle Marketing Emails off. This stops promotional emails, platform tips, and special offers. You will still receive essential transactional emails — booking confirmations, payment receipts, and account security alerts — regardless of this setting, as these are necessary to operate your account.
If you are a California resident, the CCPA gives you the following rights, all accessible from Privacy Settings → California Privacy Rights:
  • Do Not Sell My Information — RentFYN does not currently sell your data. Tap this to confirm and learn more.
  • Submit a Privacy Request — request access to, deletion of, or correction of your personal information. We respond within 45 days.
  • Limit Use of Sensitive Data — restrict how we use your location, biometric, and audio data to core app features only.
Exercising these rights is free and we will never discriminate against you for doing so.
No. RentFYN does not sell your personal information to third parties. The Do Not Sell My Information option in Privacy Settings is provided as required by California law (CCPA) and is set to active by default for all users. If this practice ever changes, we will update the Privacy Policy, notify you, and provide a clear opt-out before any sale occurs.
Tap Submit a Privacy Request in Privacy Settings, or email support@rentfyn.com directly with the subject line "California Privacy Request" or "Privacy Question". We respond to all privacy enquiries within 10 business days and to formal CCPA requests within 45 days.
You can also find our full Privacy Policy at rentfyn.com/privacy.
